  Palm Oil: An Overview Palm oil is a type of edible vegetable oil derived from the fruit of the Elaeis guineensis palm, a species native to West Africa. This oil has become one of the most widely used vegetable oils globally due to its versatility, cost-effectiveness, and relatively high yield compared to other oil crops like soybeans and rapeseed.           Production Palm oil is extracted from the flesh of the fruit (known as the mesocarp), while palm kernel oil, a different product, comes from the seed (kernel) of the fruit. The process involves pressing or heating the fruit to separate the oil, which is then refined for use in food products, cosmetics, and even biofuels.
